D.I.S.C. the Art Residency : Textile Program. "Crossing Points: The Way of Thread" 2016.
D.I.S.C The Art Residency: Textile Program:
September 15, 2016 – October 29, 2016
"CROSSING POINTS: THE WAY OF THREAD"
ODISHA, INDIA
DEADLINE AUGUST 1ST 2016
For this program we are calling fiber artists; all visual artists who wishing to gain access to the traditional Indian textile art, and to express their ideas through textile techniques, materials and concepts. Textile artists, designers, or visual artists with specific interest in textiles.
D.I.S.C. the Art programs are created to include journey part of the program when artists will be moving from place to place. In this program artists will move to four places to meet the backbone of traditional Odian art - textile.
This journey is about Art, connection, people, experience, materials, techniques, new opportunities, joy of simple living and about stepping out of a comfort zone into a new realm of discovery.
In this program artists will have a possibility to be introduced to one of the most beautiful crafts of Odisha - textile; from sacred khadi to the extraordinary achievement of textile - double ikat weaving and authentic adivasi (indigenous/ tribal) textiles. Odisha is a region that is world renown for the textile work created here. From cocoon to sari, the whole process of creation unfolds here.
Artists will be introduced to the variety of traditional Odian textile materials, techniques and concepts. The main goal of the program is to transform and express the collected knowledge through the language of contemporary art - but ideologically and conceptually stay connected to the basic concepts of textile - by the technique, material and idea.
In this program we will map the crossing points where innovation meets the tradition. The most valuable is conceptual attachment and transformation of the artists through the techniques and themes as a ritual and return to source, ensuring the continuity of thought processes and the ability to speak of relevant everyday topics through the techniques that date back thousands of years, cloaked in time and mystery.
Resident artists will be creating and traveling in the rural areas of Odisha state, India.
The residency contains 3 stages – journey, base camp and exhibition.
Inviting International Participants.
