Terran J. Last Gun

Terran J. Last Gun

Date(s): Feb 16, 2018 – Jul 16, 2018
Location: Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA), 83 Avan Nu Po Road, Santa Fe NM 87508

This exhibition features a selection of recent works on paper and a mural. Terran J. Last Gun (Sahkyiinamahka) often explores color, form, and memory, all while reflecting Piikani visual aesthetics and philosophy. “I’ve always been inspired by my ancestors’ ability to interpret the world around them in some of the most simple and geometric forms. The Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Kainai, North Piikani, South Piikani) painted lodges are a perfect representation of Blackfoot artistry. It’s interesting how home follows you wherever you go—like the Home is a Life Journey mural in the outdoor sculpture garden at MoCNA—the concept of home certainly has continued to influence my art. The works in this exhibition are a continuum of a millennia-old culture and visual language.”

Terran J. Last Gun (b. 1989, Browning, Montana) is a Piikani (Blackfeet) citizen and visual artist working in printmaking, photography, and most recently, murals. Last Gun graduated from the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) in 2016 with a BFA in Museum Studies and AFA in Studio Arts. He currently lives and works in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
