The Queen's Birthday Present

Watch the museum’s conservators at work as they wield scalpels and pigments to restore one of the Queen of Denmark’s privately owned works of art. J.S. Wahl’s painting The Royal Table of Charles VI, Holy Roman Emperor has been on the walls of the royal quarters at Fredensborg Palace since 1872, and Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II has greatly enjoyed its presence there all her life. Now, however, the painting is in very poor condition, its paint peeling in several places. Extensive restoration is required in order to restore the piece to its former glory.
