After 20+ years experience in medical device startup companies in the Silicon Valley, Joan decided to pursue her dream of opening an art gallery. This decision was reinforced after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008. The sales and marketing skills honed with each subsequent startup company are being applied to the business strategy for The McLoughlin Gallery. Education has also been an integral part of her career starting as a nurse working in academic hospitals assisting in the education of the patients, their families as well as the ever changing interns and residents. With startup companies, new technologies required the development and implementation of training programs for both the customers and sales force. In the artwork, there is an ongoing opportunity to educate new and existing collectors on the merits of emerging and lesser-known artists.
