Get to Know Me
How did you begin your career in the art world?
I started writing for art publications covering museum exhibitions, gallery openings, art fairs and auctions. It was a great opportunity to flex the art critic muscle, connect with key stakeholders and be exposed to events I may not have otherwise gone to. Conversations for these articles helped develop relationships with dealers and specialists and really helped build my network.
Do you have a routine when visiting a museum/gallery?
I usually go to the special exhibitions first and then map out some of the top pieces I am most interested in viewing. On the way, you get to encounter pieces you may not know are part of the collection and make unexpected connections.
What are the most interesting aspects of your work?
I have always loved the research aspect of working with art objects. Thumbing through original exhibition catalogues, finding original photographs with the artwork pictured to corroborate provenance and reading artists' notes are always a treat. I think it's my interest in history that drives this aspect of my work.
