Get to Know Me
What are the most interesting aspects of your work?
The most interesting aspects of my work are the people, the objects, and the element of discovery. One must be open, curious, and engaged to truly connect with the artwork, the community and with new ideas.
How did you begin your career in the art world?
I began my career in a very organic way. While studying at UCLA, I took a job at the Hammer Museum bookstore, where I started to learn about art from the books, exhibitions, curators, and art community. I became friends with artists who brought me into the scene, taking me along to studios, artist-run spaces, and galleries. Through internships at Patrick Painter gallery and LAXART (now The Brick), managing artist studios, and traveling for exhibitions, I developed a well-rounded view of the art world. As my art world savvy grew, I knew I needed to find a role that would optimize my skill set while allowing me the flexibility to be present as a single mom. Luckily, I was offered a job at an LA-based advisory, which gave me the experience I needed to found my advisory two years later. I often had the door keep opening, and I kept walking through.
What do you do in the art world?
I advise private clients on individual acquisitions of artworks, taking into account their particular taste, budget, and collecting goals. In order to do so, I keep my finger on the pulse of both established and emerging markets doing deep historical research and attending art fairs, gallery exhibitions, and studio visit as appropriate. I am keenly attuned to my clients and encourage them to build collections that are unique and enjoyable to them while optimizing for works that are urgent and relevant in the current market. I have a fiduciary duty to my clients that forms the basis for building trust over a long term period of collecting.
